The Progenitor

THE PROGENITOR

Many Moons ago, there was a great Kingdom that subsided in the earthly mountains and was ruled by my adored son. Alas, its name was lost in the pages of history. My only child, Ambrosius, the Prince, grew to be a kind and praised King beloved by not only his kin but, from both man and beast, from both the Light and the Dark.

Ambrosius was born the King of Vampires, blood-sucking beings feared by man and kept alive today in many forms of Folk tales. He was the strongest Pure Bred with powers unknown to Inhuman Nature. It is said, that he could destroy entire Kingdoms, cause quakes and even control Gravity to an extent. To keep his reckless power at a bay, they were entrusted onto Twelve Familiars. Aside from his title and powers, Ambrosius led not only Vampires but a Kingdom of many beings from near and far. He even had humans allowed though the council did not agree, Ambrosius saw them as a young race with strong hearts and curious minds.

My son would never take wars or battles seriously. It was minuscule and between the humans, he cared not what happened after. Ambrosius led his people for many years when a young Duchess travelling from the far East came along. Her name was Corvanna, daughter of Conor and she had a small Village which she was leading. She was looking to forge an alliance with the great King of the North. My son took to her immediately, the Duchess with fiery wild hair.

After becoming a member of her alliance, Ambrosius sought to know more of the beautiful Corvanna. Yet, she was a mere human. Still, she had heart, was strong-willed and a courageous Lady. Her Heart of Gold accepted anyone and her curiosity was endless. It wasn't long before Ambrose learned to live and along with it came, Love. However, he couldn't have her. He knew this and took her up as an apprentice. Corvanna feared him, yes, then accepted that he was different, not only in the human world but, his as well.

Unfortunately, time happened and Corvanna became old and fragile. For the first time in his long life, my son felt fear and sorrow. Fear of losing his only love and the sorrow of having to watch her slowly succumb to her death. On Corvanna's Deathbed, she promised Ambrosius that she would see him again, be it in this life or the next, human or Inhuman and that he is to live on for his people. My son did so, he lived way after I, myself and my Mate was long dead and watched over him in the Afterlife. Ambrose outlived his Kingdom, his people and his family, he lived only to see his Beloved Duchess once more.

He wanders the Earth to this day. I know not where he is or if he still waiting for her. I know not if he has been reunited with his lover. Or if they will ever unite as she had promised him.

Sirens and alarms joined the horrific choir of screams and cries. Flaming buildings and homes that had fallen, the crushing person trapped within them, made smoke and ash rose from the devastation while the blaze grew stronger.

A girl, no older than sixteen, stood among the decimation. She, of the very few others who were incredibly blessed to have survived the havoc. As she looked around, her eyes a sapphire blue which matched the night sky that was hidden behind the clouds of grey smoke and bright, burning flames, now reflected a brilliant blaze. Her hair was wild and red as the fire that engulfed everything around her.

A crater dented the earth of where a city once lay. In the thicket of all the loss, the girl caught sight of a body, laying in the heart of it all. As if instinct, she reacted immediately, rushing to the being, she covered her nose from the ashen clouds as she ran, her clothes battered and with flakes of grey.

Panting, she dropped beside the person, who she realized was a man probably in his early thirties. He was like her, battered only, he was bleeding. Through all the debris that was scattered all over him, the girl could still tell that he was extremely handsome and strangely enough, felt as though she knew him.

Coughing a bit, the smoke was getting thicker and the blood was already seeping through the man's clothes. Whoever he was, he had probably lost a lot of blood. Not only that, she noticed cuts and bruises all over him. What gave her hope was the subtle rise and fall of his chest as he breathed.

Finding her voice through the thickening air, she forced out, "Sir...sir, can you hear me? Hello, can you hear me?"

A groan was her reply and she exhaled the breath she didn't know she was holding in. Frantically, she scanned the area for anyone else close by. But with the burning of her eyes making them water and her ears ringing slightly, it was hard to.

"Corvanna... My Duchess?"

Happy to have had some sort of response from the man, the girl looked back down to meet the freakiest pair of golden eyes that seemed to bore into her. Weakly, the man rose a big hand to the girl's face. Catching her breath, she swallowed and took the person's hand.

"Oh thank God. Sir, my name is Cadenza. You're hurt pretty bad. I need you to stay still, okay?"

The man had blinked slowly and his eyes turned dark crimson. Cadenza wanted so badly to scream out and run but, reminded herself that this was still a living being and it would not help her situation.

"Sir? Do you understand?" Candy asked softly, the hot wind blowing in her hair into her face. The man cracked a weak smile, revealing the abnormally long canines that peaked through his lips.

Okay, maybe she should freak out? Except that she couldn't just panic and run. She was better than that. Sure, she was scared to death, be that as it may, she had felt like she knew this man and leaving him to die would hurt. The man took a deep breath, he wheeze for a while then turning on side and coughing up blood. Sighing, she helped the man to lie back down as more blood wept from his wounds.

"You always had a . . . Heart of Gold . . ." He let out barely.

"What?"

"I-I am glad... that I get to see you... before I... expire," he winced and pressed on his cut, applying pressure and Candy couldn't help but wonder what had caused them. They weren't like hers, they were precise almost deliberate. Covering her mouth, she suddenly coughed too. The smoke was getting worse if that was even possible. Her nose hurt and her skin bristled from the odd mixture of cold and warm air.

"Do you know who I am... what I am?" The man inquired over the horrible cries.

"What do you mean?"

"My name is Ambrosius, the First Vampire Progenitor."

Candy could have sworn her heart had stopped and her blood went cold.

A Vampire?! The First Vampire? What did that mean?An ... Inhuman!?

She had heard all about them over the News. They were all quite popular. Werewolves, Gods and Goddesses, Angels and Demons walking among man. Inhumans where superior beings with terrifying powers and strength that have all existed for centuries their existence hidden because of Human's ignorance and fear.

"I am dying, Cadenza Vaughen." the inhuman confessed, sadly. She was not about to question how he knew her name.

"I am so sorry... I-I really am so sorry..."

For some odd reason, as she apologized to the dying Inhuman, she felt her eyes burn and maybe it was the smoke getting to her but, she felt as though she had not seen this Person- This Vampire- in ages. And that she was going to miss him. . . Again.

"Fret not my Duchess... I hate to see you u-upset. My dear..." Her hand in his still from helping him lay back before, he squeezed tightly, fighting the tears that threatened, Candy smiled for the stranger. The Inhuman smiled back. "That's it, my Duchess..."

"Can I help... there must be a! Let me help! Any way I can... I-I'll do anything!" Her voice cracked, "... Just let me help you...please."

Turning his head away, he said, "I can not curse you with my power..." he trailed off, as if in thought.

"What? Power? I can do it, just if this will help!"

" . . . Cadenza, will you accept a burden that I have carried for centuries?" Now, he met his eyes with golden ones, "Will you take my powers?"

Cadenza was speechless at first. "Me... but, I'm human... how?"

"You would not be if, I give you my Familiars. You will powerful and dangerous. I have faith that you will be able to withstand these strengths. That is, if you accept this responsibility-", he coughed before he continued, "Do you understand Cadenza, if you accept my heritage you will be the new Progenitor; Cadenza Vaughen, the Second Progenitor."

Candy didn't know what to say. Nevertheless, she had to think fast. This was a major decision.

"Please, Candy, I need you to continue this bloodline," the man was sounding desperate.

Cadenza straightened, " Alright-"

A sudden gust of wind surprised them and Ambrosius could hear a helicopter in the distance. He had run out of time. Ambrosius placed his hand on Candy's chest, over her heart and chanted a strange language. Her eyes widened as her pulse slowed to a stop and her body froze.

"What-" the protest was no use.

The Turn had already begun. She broke out in a chilling sweat and her pours rose as the hairs on her skin stood on end. Burning in her heart as a pain radiated out until her very skin felt tight and came alive in an electric blaze. Fangs exploded out of her gums and she broke out into a skin-crawling scream. Cadenza felt as though she was dying.

"When you need help... feel threatened..." Ambrose panted, " Call the familiars, you will know how... Embrace this... gift... accept this... however... never let anyone know of this secret. I had to live with... now you must. I trust that you will be strong enough for this... My Duchess. I love you... forgive me..."

Through blood-shot, teary eyes, she saw the Inhuman male that called himself Ambrosius, age, wither and turn to ash. Then, blow away into the night as Cadenza succumbs to Darkness.
